If you’re a historical architecture buff or just love visiting beautiful houses, this year’s Lakewood Home Festival is practically a must-attend event. For the 43rd year, the East Dallas neighborhood is featuring homes in the area that showcase old styles and how they can live on in today’s modern times. The Lakewood Home Tour takes place on November 9 and 10.

Lakewood is filled with several of well-known architect Clifford Hutsell‘s eclectic Spanish homes. This year’s tour will feature three Hutsell homes, including his former private residence and a recently built home inspired by his designs. A contemporary treehouse and a newer, trendy space are two newer additions with Hutsell inspiration.

From Lakeshore Drive to Vintage Place, there are several unique homes to visit in Lakewood. Here’s a sneak peek:

7039 Lakeshore Drive

The current owners have seamlessly paid homage to the heritage of this 1936 historical Hutsell home. The home maximizes its western California-inspired roots with hand-painted tilework throughout, beveled mirros, original pillow tile in two upstairs bathrooms and intricate ironwork. The home is highlighted by a traditional Hutsell billiard room with a distinct frosting ceiling true to the time period and flanked with stained glass making the naturally lit space a family favorite for gatherings.

Keeping true to the area’s historical roots, this 2006 home is a renewed copy of the historical Hutsell homes in Lakewood. This Spanish Mediterranean has new homeowners who have completed meticulous updates and renovations that reflect their contemporary and eclectic style.

7038 Lakewood Boulevard

This 1929 Spanish Colonial Hutsell underwent a detailed update to create a more functional floorplan. This includes a complete kitchen, master suite and courtyard remodel, and added a junior master suite in the old sleeping porch. Incorporating details such as stained-glass windows helped add to the iconic Hustell flare. The corner lot provides ample flower beds, plenty of street frontage, and countless opportunities to interact with neighbors — making this home a Hustell gem.

6616 Northridge Drive

This bright and airy haven was built in 2018 and highlights the current trends that continue to attract families to the area. Large windows, coupled with a sunny white and soft pastel palate, provide a natural luminous and approachable atmosphere for the open entertaining spaces. The five-bedroom home is rounded out with a resort-style multi-level outdoor living space and pool.

7035 Lakewood Boulevard

This iconic home is well-known in the neighborhood for its dramatic blue exterior drapes that surround large nautical-themed stained-glass windows — a Hutsell homes trademark. Built in 1930, this was Clifford Hutsell’s personal home, and the first of its kind for the neighborhood. The current owners have painstakingly restored the interior and exterior of the home. They balanced the fine line between honoring the artistic details of the past while improving performance of the space for maximum comfort and functionality today.

7102 Pasadena

Situated within the trees, this modern retreat defines a Zen oasis of tranquility. The current homeowners re-imagined the interior layout and added an additional 2,500 square feet, including a gym with upstairs guest room and a playroom. Design enthusiasts will take note of the vintage light fixtures, bold furniture and statement art pieces peppered throughout the exotic Lakewood hideaway.

The festival includes the six home tour, as well as a themed auction party “Keep Calm and Lakewood On” at Omni Dallas on Friday, November 8. General admission tickets are $150 for the party and standard home tour tickets are $20. Tickets for the special Candlelight tour on Saturday evening with wine and chances to meet the owners of each home are going for $30. There’s even a VIP Candlelight tour for $75, which include the additions of a bus tour and reception.
