Sexy New Pool Bar Cannonballs Into Houston With Private Club Visions: A Drink and a Splash

Summer is upon us and we’re dreaming of a dip. But not just any dip: We’re game to do some sun-seeking at the newly-open El Segundo Swim Club in the Second Ward, just 10 minutes from downtown. Although it’s billed as a private swim club, memberships are not yet available making pool time here accessible to all via $20 per person day passes. (The passes are available on new club’s website.)

But this isn’t just any pool. It’s a happening bar scene with an impressive pool.

Raising the bar on swimsuit season, El Segundo offers a splash-worthy 1,350 square-foot swimming pool and full bar stocked with champagne and rosé aplenty. You can also sip a trio of specialty cocktails: The Paloma with tequila, Aperol, grapefruit juice and lime; The Amor Prohibido with vodka, lemon, raspberry and coconut water; and The Miraflores with gin, Pimms, watermelon juice and lime.

You’ll have to pay for it (drinks are not included with a day pass). This is a pay-as-you-go bar that takes credit cards only.

Instagram Paradise?

Still, if you’re the type who will head to a destination purely for the ‘Gram, you’ve also come to the right place. El Segundo takes its design as seriously as its pool game with decor from Gin Braverman of Gin Design Group (Axelrad Beer Garden, Goode Co. Kitchen + Cantinas, Goodnight Charlies) in collaboration with Schaum/Shieh Architects.

Inspired by the boardwalk of Rio and reminiscent of a nostalgic L.A. pool party scene, this swimming paradise features lush plants and colorful shipping containers turned into cabanas, which make for an unpolished yet chic vibe.

“We wanted to create something fun and unpretentious,” El Segundo Beach Club owner Matthew Healey says in a statement. “We’re creating a little oasis just off the beaten path.”
