Houston’s Top Chefs Line Up To Pork It Out
Go Pig or Go Home
By Jailyn Marcel //
Have your pork and eat it too at the 4th annual Go Pig or Go Home! chef throwdown. Suckling pigs are the main attraction, and local chefs are tasked with creatively preparing and presenting two whole pigs for a team of esteemed judges and fans (there’s also a “People’s Choice” category). Past winners include Michael Pellegrino (MAX’s Wine Dive), Gabe Medina (Soma Sushi), and Ronnie Killen (Killen’s Steakhouse). But bragging rights aren’t the only benefit of this event; a portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to OpHeart, which provides 3-D versions of infants’ hearts to help doctors prepare for advanced pediatric surgical procedures. After three years of sold-out success, this year’s event moves from its original home at Kata Robata to 8th Wonder Brewery.
“This event has become a favorite of local chefs as well as within the Houston foodie community … we’ve had countless inquiries as to when it would return. It’s exciting to be joining forces with the guys behind 8th Wonder – they’ve got so much energy and creativity – we know this event is going to be the best one yet,” says event organizer Quinn Hoang.
Participating chefs include Randy Rucker (Bramble), Rebecca Mason (Fluff Bake Bar), Jonathan Jones (El Big Bad), Matt Marcus (Eatsie Boys), Adam Dorris (Pax Americana), Monica Pope (Sparrow Bar + Cookshop), Richard Kaplan (Weights + Measures), Alex Padilla (Original Ninfa’s on Navigation), Greg Lowry (Bradley Ogden Hospitality), Omar Pereney (Peska), Jose Hernandez (Radio Milano), Peter Laufer (Royal Sonesta Hotel), Justin Turner (Bernie’s Burger Bus), David Cordua (Cordua Restaurants), William Wright (Helen Greek Food and Wine), Vidal Elias Murillo (La Fisheria Downtown), Arnaldo Richards (Pico’s Mex Mex), and Micah Rideout (Tarakaan).
