DJ Star Hosts Night at Popular Midtown Bar
By Matthew Ramirez //
Internationally acclaimed artist, KPFT 90.1 FM DJ of the Houston Jazz Spotlight show, and the mind behind The Jazz Church of Houston, Tierney Malone is adding another line to his impressive CV. Malone is now the host, DJ, and creator of Houston Jazz Spotlight Live, a new monthly meeting of creative minds held on the first Monday of each month.
It all starts tonight (May 1) at Midtown bar Mongoose Versus Cobra. The inaugural night will be recorded for a later broadcast on the Houston Jazz Spotlight show and for a podcast Malone hopes to launch this August.
The night’s featured guest is vibraphonist Chase Jordan; appearing alongside him are poet Kool B, host of KPFT’s Jazz Latino show Juan Flores, artists Robert Hodge and David McGee, crooner Horace Grigsby, writer Chris Becker, and DJ/musician A. Madvlyn & Grey Wolf. The show will corral the multi-disciplinary artists for an exciting mix of live music, poetry, art, dance, and interviews, all live. Games, giveaways, and drink specials will be going all night as well.
