Bluemercury — the makeup, skincare and spa emporium founded by husband and wife Barry Beck and Marla Malcolm Beck — has finally landed in Texas. A bevy of beauties is already flocking to the new Highland Park Village boutique to browse sought-after brands such as Nars, Trish McEvoy, Laura Mercier and La Mer. “I’ve always loved Dallas,” Marla says, recalling her first trip to the city at age 26 to visit friends she’d met at Harvard Business School. “They lived near Highland Park Village, where you can get coffee with a friend, buy a chic Chanel dress and go grocery shopping. Who doesn’t want to spend the entire day there?”
Post-Harvard, the Becks opened their first Washington, D.C., store and now oversee 65 locations, filled with carefully curated products from more than 90 names in beauty. Go-to brands include Oribe (“They have a brand-new brightening blonde shampoo that is flying off our shelves”), Acqua di Parma, SkinCeuticals, Molton Brown (“I have all their hand washes in my bathroom, and my husband loves their black-pepper body wash”) and Darphin (“They have a really gorgeous overnight cream called Exquisâge”).
But products from the Becks’ own cosmeceutical label, M-61, are often what Bluemercury devotees seek. Mainly vegan and gluten- and paraben-free, coveted items include Power Glow, a “completely addictive” one-minute peel, and Power Spot, a new acne treatment. “I wanted to put out the cleanest, most natural pharmaceutical brand on the market,” Marla says. “There are 100 ingredients that can’t be in the line.” Bluemercury’s full-service spa, which offers oxygen facials, waxing, microdermabrasion and glycolic peels, is “express but super high quality,” she says. With Houston and Austin next on her retail radar, her eye is on Dallas suburbs, with Southlake Town Square welcoming Texas’ second Bluemercury this fall.
