Reese Witherspoon Makes Herself at Home in Dallas
New Store Channels the Southern Girl Next Door Allure
By Linden Wilson Jobe //
Sweet Southerner Reese Witherspoon has enchanted us with her memorable movie lines (“What, like it’s hard?” regarding Harvard) and girl-next-door allure.
Last fall, the actress delved into retail when she opened her first boutique, Draper James, in her hometown of Nashville. This month, Witherspoon’s second Draper James opens in Highland Park Village.
Named for her grandparents, Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon, the charming shop stocks women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and home decoratives evoking Witherspoon’s Southern heritage — gingham shirtdresses, lace baseball caps, mint julep cups, and bags emblazoned with “Totes, Y’all!” and “Hello, Sugar.”
Interior designer Mark Sikes, who designed the Nashville store as well as Witherspoon’s home, is the mastermind behind the blue, yellow, navy, and white palette of the Dallas boutique. In a local nod, a custom “Howdy” balloon image by photographer and Dallas native Gray Malin hangs inside. Bring on the sweet tea.
Draper James, 6 Highland Park Village.
