What: Wheels Up Super Saturday Tailgate
Where: The Silos at Sawyer Yards
PC Moment: Sports, music, celebrities, and food and drink commingled at Wheels Up Super Saturday Tailgate, in honor of the private jet company which touts itself as “the most intelligent private aviation solution.” Don Julio cocktails mixed well with a delicious variety of offerings courtesy of Underbelly, including a shrimp and oyster bar, fresh crawfish, and lamb chops with flash-fried vegetables.
Kelley James had the large outdoor space near the Silos rocking, as he free-styled a song about the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons before getting Huston Street, J.J. Watt, and Alex Rodriguez on stage for a rousing performance of “Sweet Caroline.” (A-Rod, how could you?)
Country star Jake Owen took over for headlining duties for the afternoon party as celebs like Guy Fieri and Ray Lewis cavorted among the crowd of adoring fans, Pats fans easily outnumbering Falcons fans, unfortunately. Pulling the party together was Houston-based uber event planner Fontaine Swope.
Who: McLovin’ himself Christopher Mintz-Plasse, stopping to chat and take pictures with fans; Carolina Panthers defensive stud Luke Kuechly, incognito in a black jacket (still didn’t prevent a few kids from getting the star to autograph some footballs); retired Yankees star Mark Teixeira, no doubt shaking his head at A-Rod; Jameis Winston, cool and collected posing with a car from sponsor Mercedes-Benz; mad man Jon Hamm; fellow stars of sport and screen Donovan McNabb, Steve Smith, Mike Tirico, Frank Gifford, Oilers legend Warren Moon, Joe Buck, Clemson star Deshaun Watson, Rich Eisen, Texas A&M University football coach Kevin Sumlin, Matt Hasselbeck, and the Texans new assistant coach Wes Welker.
