Jazz Legends Are Headed to MFAH
It’s a Summer of Music and Film
By James Brock //
Jazz is coming to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. On three weekends in June, Jazz on Film — curated by Peter Lucas — will screen works by John Cassavetes, Sara Fishko, and Adam Kahan, among others, all dealing with the American invention that never goes out of style. (Nina Simone fans, take note: The Amazing Nina Simone, directed by Jeff Lieberman, plays on Friday, June 24, at 7 pm.)
The riches in this series are many, including All Night Long (1962), The Case of the Three-Sided Dream (2014), and The Jazz Loft According to W. Eugene Smith (2015). You’ll see some great acting, meet vibrant and enthralling personalities, and hear some great music.
My top picks: See the film on Simone, and make sure to get to Shadows, Cassevetes’ directorial debut.
Jazz on Film, Friday, June 3, through Friday, June 24, at MFAH
