Susan Poorman Blackie Ovarian Cancer Foundation and Manoosh at Tootsies
By Jailyn Marcel //
September launches the busy fall social season, but it also serves a greater purpose, because it’s National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Houston-based accessory line Manoosh has teamed with the Susan Poorman Blackie Ovarian Cancer Foundation to create the Susan Scarf, named for the foundation’s namesake and founder, who passed away in 2014. Blackie’s hair was affected by her medical treatment, and she wore beautiful scarves throughout her therapy as a source of strength. The newly released teal (the national ovarian cancer color) scarf honors Blackie’s memory, and will be celebrated during a kick-off party at Tootsies on September 16.
Guests will enjoy light bites and wine, accompanied by local fashion illustrator Rongrong DeVoe’s live sketching. Manoosh’s Anna Wilson and Kathy Bracewell of Agate Ranch + Marfa, a West Texas-inspired handcrafted jewelry line, will present their Fall 2015 collections, and Houston-based lifestyle blogger, ovarian cancer survivor and author of 99 Problems But a Baby Ain’t One, a Memoir About Cancer, Adopting and my Love for Jay-Z (signed copies of her book will also be available) Megan Silianoff hosts the event. The fun doesn’t stop there. Shoppers can also participate in Agate Ranch + Marfa’s “build your own” agate jewelry station and add teal pieces to create one-of-kind necklaces.
Not only will all proceeds from the scale of the scarf go to the Susan Poorman Blackie Foundation, but Tootsies will give a percentage of its evening’s sales to the foundation.
