Houston’s Own Forest Maze Gives Halloween a Jolt
The Orange Show Gala Does Creepy Right
By Kelly Schafler //
Just in time for Halloween, Orange Show Center for Visionary Art is hosting its 35th annual Orange Show Gala. This year’s theme? Mystery masquerade with a Louisiana-swamp twist.
Upon arrival, guests will be led through a immersive enchanting forest maze where they can view a photo timeline of the Orange Show throughout the past 35 years.
So grab your most extravagant garbs and prepare for a night of live performance art, a silent auction, dinner, cocktails, and entertainment from American Cajun singer/songwriter Wayne Toups. At the silent auction, guests can bid for various art pieces by Sharon Kopriva, James Surls, Trenton Doyle Hancock, and others. Additionally, a series of art on washboards — painted mostly by Houston-based artists — will be available to purchase, with prices starting at $100.
Orange show is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting visionary and folk art activity in Houston. Proceeds from this event go towards the upkeep of the Beer Can House, The Houston Art Car Parade, and Smither Park, as well as furthering art education in schools throughout the city.
Penelope and Lester Marks are chairs of this year’s Orange Show Gala. PaperCity is an official sponsor of this event.
