Inside a $15.5 Million River Oaks Boulevard Mansion With Its Own Indoor Swimming Pool, Beauty Salon and Crystal Chandeliers Galore

A Rare Look Inside a Record Setting House

By //

It’s not often that Houstonians get a glimpse into the grand mansions that line River Oaks Boulevard, but the recent sale of the 15,000-square-foot behemoth at 1708 on the city’s most prestigious thoroughfare opens the door.

The association of realtors’ professional organization just revealed that the home sprawling across a lavishly landscaped acre was the most expensive home sold (with a $15.5 million listing price) in the Houston area during the month of July. The six bedroom house, designed by Eubanks Group Architects in 1994, was on the market for a mere 70 days. Less than three months even with that eight-figure list price. Clearly, the buyer is someone with elevated tastes and deep financial resources.

The listing describes this River Oaks Boulevard mansion as “an estate of incomparable grandeur offering a rare degree of opulence with palatial proportions and dignified design.”

The den at 1708 River Oaks Boulevard features a stained glass domed ceiling.

Indeed, the photos reveal a home with design details that speak to a penchant for royal sentiments. Consider the intricate millwork, ceilings elaborately painted, vast expanses of marble, the wealth of crystal chandeliers, a stained glass dome in the den and a vast primary closet fit for a king. Or queen.

Beyond the requisite bedrooms (six), baths (seven full, three half), elevator, multi-car garage (with room for six cars in tandem), chefs kitchen, wine vault and summer kitchen, 1708 River Oaks Boulevard boasts numerous exceptional elements. In many ways, this home is as fully kitted out as a resort hotel.

The indoor swimming pool at 1708 River Oaks Boulevard is worthy of a European spa.

Consider the extraordinary natatorium (indoor swimming poor) with a heated  pool/spa opening to a southern terrace that boasts a  fountain, summer kitchen pavilion and artificial lawn.

The owner’s suite includes the expected separate sitting area, but also boasts a so-called wellness wing with beauty salon, massage parlor, steam room and fitness center.

This River Oaks Boulevard mansion is fully gated and includes a separately gated service driveway. When it comes to a mansion this grand, if you have to ask the cost you probably cannot afford it.

Houston’s top residential real estate agent Laura Sweeney of Compass represented the homeowner while Diane Kingshill of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty delivered the buyer.
