MTV’s Big Dallas Night Redefines Art With the Help of George Michael’s Foundation
By Caroline Hogan //
Since 2011, Dallas has been redefining what it means to be an artist and what art is with the help of an unlikely ally, MTV. MTV RE:DEFINE is an annual charity art exhibition and auction that is brought to life thanks to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and the Goss-Michael Foundation, in collaboration with the Dallas Contemporary art museum.
The event is a big success every year, as it’s raised more than $10 million to date, all of it benefiting HIV and AIDs prevention and education awareness. This year marks the seventh annual gala and it takes place in the CenterPark Garden at NorthPark Center. This year’s hosts include Joyce Goss and Kenny Goss, as well as chairs Maxine Trowbridge and Brooke Davenport.
Special guest Simon de Pury will debut an exclusive musical performance as well as lead the live auction.
More importantly, this year’s artist honoree is one of the most significant British contemporary artists of the time, Tracey Emin. Emin is best known for her thought provoking and unreal pieces that span a variety of mediums. From painting, drawing, video, photography, sculpture, neon text, and sewn appliqué, Emin is the definition of a multimedia genius.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and the 40th anniversary of Dallas Contemporary. To commemorate, the night’s exhibition will feature more than 50 artworks including pieces from Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Marc Quinn and Michael Craig Martin.
