Another New Shake Shack Ups the Ante On Houston’s Burger Fever
A Trendy Neighborhood Should Brace Itself for Monster Lines
By Jailyn Marcel //
News broke earlier this year that New York-based burger chain Shake Shack would open its first Houston location — in the Galleria — later this year. Now, Houstonians can brace for twice the Shack Shack, because the popular eatery is also coming to Rice Village. Slated for a 2017 premiere, the outpost will occupy the space that is currently a La Madeleine, at 6206 Kirby Dr.
Shake Shack launched in New York’s Madison Square Park in 2004, and now has restaurants around the world, including in the UAE, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Russia. Texas accounts for two Shake Shack locations, both of which are in Austin. (The company has also announced a Dallas location, which will open later this year at Uptown’s The Crescent.)
Rice Village continues to be a magnet for restaurant and retail offerings. This past year, 2016 James Beard award semifinalist and Greek taverna Helen Greek Food and Wine made its debut in the neighborhood, as did Vancouver-based apparel brand Kit and Ace. F.E.E.D TX Restaurant Group opened Little Liberty in February, and DC-based luxury beauty retailer Bluemercury opens this May at 2506 University Blvd.
