House of Plates is Dallas’ most mysterious blog. It’s about local music and local food, sometimes simultaneously (you can read an interview with Sarah Jaffe at Tilman’s Roadhouse or Matt & Kim at Smoke). Its admin are completely anonymous, and they plan to stay that way. But the thing that has made House of Plates known in Dallas (without ever being known) is their knack for unusual, fabulous events.
The elusive group has thrown two underground dinner parties in collaboration with Cafe Momentum – the critically-acclaimed eatery and non-profit – and it’s getting ready to have a third. The next party, dubbed Wildcats, will be held on October 21.
Considering the nature of House of Plates, it should be no surprise that these aren’t your average dinner parties. For starters, the location is given in the form of a riddle, texted to guests an hour before dinner.
“For guests, it’s rarely a straightforward path to the dinner party. Our first one had accordion players obstructing the entrance and would only separate if you knew what to do. Fortunately, all 120 guests solved their riddle,” H.O.P. tells PaperCity.
Wildcats will feature Brooklyn-based DJ Tanlines, a six course meal with wine pairings and craft cocktails by George Kaiho of Jettison. A percentage of proceeds will go to Cafe Momentum, which teaches critical, vocational, and life skills programs for youth incarcerated in Dallas.
Feeling adventurous? Tickets for the dinner party are available online starting tomorrow, Thursday September 28 at 10 am.
