Red-Carpet Revamp

Sundance, Cannes and TriBeCa may be the glitziest film-festival destinations. But given the obsession with red carpets, celebs and A-list film premieres, perhaps the paparazzi should add a new city to their list of celeb-sighting destinations: Dallas. A big buzz surrounded this year's event, as the Dallas Film Society decided to amp up its film festival with a new name (Dallas International Film Festival), a new CEO and festival executive director (Tanya Foster), a new chairman of the board (Michael Cain) and a new artistic director (James Faust), all to set the stage for 11 days of red-carpet romps by some of Hollywood's brightest marquee names.

Star-Studded Soirées

The festival's opener — a gala screening at the Angelika Film Center — drew in 1,600 filmgoers, who joined honorary chairs Laura and Tom Leppert, Golden Globe nominee Bill Paxton, and socials Kacy and Carter Tolleson, Anne and Steve Stodghill, and Angus Wynne. Next up, the Filmmaker Lunch at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, with Wilmer Valderrama and America Ferrera; the Dallas Star Award presentations, with Steuben Crystal trophies given to Guillermo Arriaga, the late Pedro Infante, The Blind Side writer John Lee Hancock, The Green Mile director Frank Darabont, and The Dark Knight cinematographer Wally Pfister; and hundreds of screenings and premieres. Making the trek to pose under our bright lights were Amanda Seyfried, Kathleen Quinlan, Dallas Shining Star Award recipient Amber Heard, Kelly Monaco, Barry Corbin, Zach Gilford, and Clint Howard.
