Dallas Art Crowd Hits a Warehouse for a Night of Heated Bidding

Partying for a Cause

Galvanize, by definition, means to shock or excite someone into action. There are many different means of doing this, but one form in particular has the ability to do so in a way that is truly transcendent: art. For centuries, art has held the power to, often unassumingly, touch something deep in a person’s soul that compels them to think, feel, change… act.

In the case of the annual Art for Advocacy event benefitting Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, that action was to bid. The fundraiser, co-chaired by Tonya and Todd Ramsey drew an artsy crowd out to a west Dallas warehouse, where cocktail hour was held in a gallery style setting, allowing for ample time to peruse more than 80 works of art donated for the silent auction by artists including Carly Allen-Martin, Gian Garofalo, Lucrecia Waggoner, and Steve Wrubel.

When it came time to be seated for the dinner and live auction, remarks from DCAC CEO Lynn Davis, who shared moving stories from a few of the tens of thousands of Dallas County children the organization serves, galvanized the group to action once more.

The heated live auction saw a number of bidding wars for the eight eclectic works on the block, which all ultimately found new homes. Whatever tension may have built up during the battle of the paddles, the after party with music by DJ Sober was the perfect chance to let off steam.
