Visual Artist Creates Multi-Sensory Experiences for TACA’s Party on the Green, Talks Dream Concerts and Tongue Tricks

Preferential Treatment With Carmen Menza

BY // 09.27.19

A number of creative individuals are coming together to create this year’s TACA Lexus Party on the Green and it’s time to get to know them better. In addition to the on-staff team at TACA, this annual event brings together talented chefs, top minds from the performing arts world and visual artists to create a truly magical evening.

Today, PaperCity is spotlighting Carmen Menza. She is an artist who works across various mediums particularly video, light sculptures and music. Which seems completely organic given that she received her BFA in jazz guitar performance from the University of North Texas. The multi-sensory experiences that Menza creates for her public pieces seem perfect for the annual Lexus Party on the Green as her work is meant as a collaboration between herself and the community.

In advance of the hot ticket event, which takes place next Friday, October 4 in the Dallas Arts District, we emailed Menza the PaperCity preferential treatment questionnaire.

Pajamas or in the buff: PJs

Early or late riser: I love sleeping in, but a school-aged son forces me to be an early riser.

Coffee or tea: Coffee

Morning beauty/grooming ritual: Absolutely love my Clarins Double Serum!

Evening beauty/grooming ritual: Did I say how much I love my Clarins Double Serum?

Go-to daytime ensemble: Leggings and a comfy top.

Ideal evening look: Little black dress but always with a bit of sparkle.

One thing you always keep in mind when getting dressed: I always try to keep in mind how it makes me feel. If I feel confident then I’m gonna rock.

Your happy place destination: Relaxing with friends and enjoying great food and drink.

The hotel you call your home-away-from-home: Not a hotel but our friends’ lovely home in Sedona.

Travel bag: Michael Kors

Last person you cocktail’ed with and what was your poison: My husband. He makes a mean Moscow Mule!

Dream concert: If I could travel back in time it would be Jeff Buckley. Current day would be Radiohead.

Store where you wish you had an unlimited charge account: Forty Five Ten. What a dream that would be.

Items currently on your coffee table: 1. Form + Code In Design, Art, and Architecture by Casey Reas, 2. Twyla Tharp – The Creative Habit, Learn It and Use it for Life, 3. Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time

If you weren’t in your current profession what would you be doing: I would combine my love for art and science. Favorite exhibition you’ve seen in the past five years: I will name two. The current Alicja Kwade exhibit up at the Dallas Contemporary is brilliant. And the Ann Veronica Janssens exhibit at the Nasher in 2016 was a definite favorite of mine.

Top artists you look to for inspiration: Craig Kauffman, Refik AnadolOlafur Eliasson, Leo Villareal, Gisela Colon, Casey Reas
