I turned in to quite the cub reporter the past few months as rumors were swirling about a massive fashion exhibition on the horizon. Whispers of old world glamour coming to town were heard in the dark corners of the Mansion’s Bar. I thought, Balenciaga? Well, that’s old news, it’s opening in October at the Kimbell.

Upon some investigation I found that a major exhibition of Christian Dior was opening in Colorado (of all places), I thought perhaps the iconic haute couturier might be coming to Texas as well. All was confirmed this afternoon when The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) revealed that it will present Dior: From Paris to the World, an exhibition that debuted this month at the Denver Art Museum and which surveys more than 70 years of the House of Dior’s legacy and global influence.

Opening May 19 and continuing through September 1, 2019, the DMA is the only other United States venue for this extensive and highly anticipated retrospective of the celebrated haute couture house.

The exhibition will be a feast for the eyes. Featuring a magical assortment of more than a hundred haute couture dresses, as well as accessories, photographs, original sketches, runway videos and other archival material, all creating the story of the iconic haute couture fashion house. Dior: From Paris to the World also will profile its founder, Christian Dior, and subsequent artistic directors, including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano (the creative genius who many say put the house back on the fashion map), Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri (the first woman director and currently at the helm of the house).

Expect oohs and ahhs in abundance as visitors roam the galleries of the DMA for what is sure is to be a blockbuster exhibition with record attendance.

The DMA’s director, Dr. Agustín Arteaga shared: “The House of Dior has been a legendary force in fashion and visual culture for decades and continues to be an important influence that blurs the lines between fashion and art. Dallas has long recognized the artistic significance of Dior, most notably when in 1947, early in his career, Christian Dior traveled here to receive the Neiman Marcus Award for fashion. We are excited to welcome this innovative creative voice back to our city and to offer DMA audiences the opportunity to be inspired by the remarkable legacy of a global icon.”
