The Wildest, Most Unique Star Wars Festival Ever Takes Over Houston

Does Luke Skywalker Do Food Trucks?

BY Ashley Coley // 05.05.17

Philippines native and Houston local Dandee Danao, better known as Dandee Warhol, is a notable figure in the Houston contemporary and pop art scene. The University of Houston finance and management graduate is a self-taught, colorblind artist concentrating in geometric patterns with cartoon characters from the ’80s and ’90s. His style focuses on clarity of lines, transparent brushstrokes, and drastically contrasting colors.

Shortly after rooting himself in the local art scene, Warhol founded War’Hous Visual Studios  an art setting of creative talents that provides services including art consultation, design, and curation.

For its sixth year, War’hous is gearing up for the Annual Star Wars Saga themed Art Festival that has banqueted the most blockbuster exhibitions in the Houston art circuit. Curated by Warhol,  this cosplay encouraged, two-day family friendly extravaganza will be showing at The Space HTX (2005 Commerce St.) on Saturday, May 6, from noon to 9 pm and Sunday May 7 from noon to 6pm and is open for all ages. Featured works from local artists include DeeJon, Kevin Hernandez, Neri Gomez, Mark Nasso, Nikita Leigh, and Sergio Cornejo, food trucks, and live music by Hiram, Gabriela Grrrl Parts, Us., and Corbin Dallas.

The Star Wars VIP Preview Party is Friday, May 5th, 6 to 9pm at The Space HTX (2005 Commerce St.) followed by the VIP After Party at at The Honeymoon Cafe and Bar (300 Main St.) from 9 pm to midnight . For tickets and more information, click here.

Working through War’hous, Warhol shows an ardent commitment to the local and underground art community by giving under exposed artists a space to exhibit their passions and dreams in any medium. You might even say the force is with him. Especially this weekend.
