Alita: Battle Angel  is director and Texas-native Robert Rodriguez‘s latest film. Shot in Austin, Alita is a sci-fi, cyberpunk action film that follows one woman’s journey to discover the truth of who she is and her fight to change the world.

Austin is one of only three cities, along with New York and Los Angeles, that will get to experience “Passport to Iron City” — an immersive life-sized board game based off the film — starting January 29th. It will be located at 1901 E. 51st Street, right by Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios.

The 12,000 square foot adventure combines “custom technology built for the retro-future Alita aesthetic and highly detailed sets which have been recreated down to the last detail by the film’s award-winning production designers.”

By entering the immersive experience, you’ll get to explore a life-sized board game where you and your friends are the game pieces. Guests will be able to have a drink at the Kansas, a replica of the bar in the movie, and explore the streets of Iron City. You can even interact with the “City’s gritty residents and visit familiar landmarks.”

A giant game for adults, credits can be earned by completing puzzles and challenges, experimenting with innovative technology, and uncovering hidden clues. At the end of the journey, guests will receive a post-experience assessment that assigns them to a role in Iron City based on decisions they made while exploring. Winners will get an Iron City souvenir.

Produced by Avatar‘s James Cameron, the film stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly and Mahershala Ali. The film follows Alita (Salazar) who awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize. She is taken in by Ido (Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past.

As Alita tries to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past — she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control.

If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

Early bird tickets for “Passport to Iron City” are currently available for $25 before prices go up for regular tickets on January 18.  The experience will be open until February 13, right before the film releases on February 14.

Here’s a teaser trailer for the experience:
