NEW YORK — On the court, the Houston Rockets are contenders to win it all next season in the NBA. Off the court, there’s no contest. With Carmelo Anthony as the newest addition to the team, Rockets players are bound to snare top honors in the Best Dressed department.

The NBA All-Star, who recently signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with Houston, gathered his friends together on the day after the official end of New York Fashion Week to introduce a new collaboration with several of his favorite fashion brands.

Dubbed “Melo Made,” the collection features pieces designed by Anthony in collaboration with Jordan Brand, Rag & Bone, Goorin Brothers, Rocambeau and Famous Nobodys, a New York street wear company owned by his brother-in-law Christian Vaquez.  The first collaboration to debut later this month is the Rag & Bone and Jordan Brand collection of sneakers and T-shirts, including a new interpretation of the Air Jordan 20, and a separate five-piece apparel collection. It will be sold online and at select retail stores. New items will follow each month.

“I’ve been around fashion for a while, observing and being involved, but taking my time and figuring out what I can do to differentiate myself from what everybody else is doing,” Anthony told Women’s Wear Daily. “I found out a lot of brands wanted me to do collaborations, capsules and lines, so I said, ‘Why not make this my own: Melo Made/House of Melo, and just put all the brands under one roof.’ ”

Rockets teammate James Harden, New York Knicks guard Tim  Hardaway Jr., and Rag & Bone designer Marcus Wainwright were among the celebrities on hand for the presentation, along with Anthony’s estranged wife La La Anthony, who lovingly posed for photos with him, leading to speculation they are getting back together.

While in New York, Harden and Anthony also got together for a pickup basketball game with Hardaway, Serge Ibaka, Kelly Oubre Jr., Courtney Lee, JaVale McGee, and Enes Kanter.

Anthony is not the only Rockets to show an interest in fashion. Harden previously appeared at fashion week to promote a collaboration with Bloomingdale’s and GQ magazine as the star in a series of videos inspired by “The Walk,” described as “the style moment between the locker room and team bus for players to showcase their off-the-court sartorial swagger. ”

And Rockets point guard Chris Paul, who is known for his fashionable attire, teamed up with men’s accessory brand Hook & Albert to create a collection of stylish accessories.
