The Houston Astros Get Their Own Championship Vodka
This is No Ordinary Drink —
By Shelby Hodge //
Last week, not long before the Houston Astros would be giving away replicas of the World Series championship ring at Minute Maid Park for the last time, I received a colorful delivery box from Effen Vodka containing a bottle of the unusually-named fire water. In celebration of H-Town’s championship, the bottle was unexpectedly dressed in a limited-edition Houston Astros sleeve which featured the Astros iconic “H” logo in celebration of that 2017 win.
The accompanying card explained that Effen was “elevating game day for Astros fans both at home and in the ballpark.” The bottles are on sale at Spec’s while fans at Minute Maid can mosey over to the Effen Bar in or line up at the bar carts for a splash from the Houston Astros Effen Vodka bottle. Effen says that the bottles are available in Texas and Louisiana.
It’s a cool gimmick that proved to be a hit at a swank River Oaks dinner party Saturday night, held in the home of Janet Gurwitch, the only female in the Astros stable of owners, and Ron Franklin, blue-blooded Astros fan. (Both have the original Astros jewel-studded rings.) Both were delighted with the present.
Now you have a clever hostess gift ($21.04) for Astros fans (and owners) as well as birthday treats for diehard fans over the age of 21.
This isn’t exactly a first. Effen is partnering with various MLB teams, a partnership that began when the Cubs bottle was released in the Chicago market earlier this year. And New York Mets bottle was introduced at the same time as the Astros’.
Nevertheless, we will be expecting a similar adults-only souvenir when when the Astros take the World Series trophy again this October. Yes.
