If you’re not yet familiar with Dallas fashion designer Levenity, now’s the time to get acquainted. The local brand just scored some major style points with a pop culture queen. Cardi B — the rapper behind Billboard No. 1 hit “Bodak Yellow” — was spotted Tuesday in a chic piece from Levenity’s FW17 collection.
The rapper donned Levenity’s chocolate python trench coat at a performance in New York last night. You can see the sleek look in a photo and video she shared with her 10 million Instagram followers. (Cardi B happened to be getting flowers from Taylor Swift while wearing the coat, guaranteeing even more attention for the brand.
The rapper rose to prominence from the reality show Love & Hip Hop and gained a huge following on social media for her brash, unfiltered persona. This week, she made headlines when “Bodak Yellow” moved into the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. The last time a female rapper earned the honor with a solo song was Lauryn Hill in 1998.
Cardi B has also become an unlikely style star. Vogue praised her as “New York Fashion Week’s Undisputed (And Uncensored) Front Row Queen,” and she performed at Alexander Wang’s famous after-party.
In other words, she’s the pop culture icon of the moment – exactly who designers aspire to dress.
Levenity designer Venny Etienne recently debuted the coat and the whole FW17 collection at Fashion With Compassion, an event benefitting charities against domestic violence.
The Cardi B-approved leather kimono coat is available online now.
