Float Fest's popularity is unquestioned. Floating and music are a huge draw.
Float Fest is floating to a new location this year.
Float Fest is the only festival in the world to combine the Texas pastime of floating the river with live music. This year’s festival, set for July 20 to 21, marks the festival’s sixth anniversary. But it is moving to a new location.
Now it will take place in Gonzales, an hour from Austin. And this year’s Float Fest will have two main stages with non-overlapping sets. Float Fest had been held in the San Marcos area, but permit issues that grew into a court battle helped spur the move.
The new location also gives the festival much more space.
Headliners Major Lazer, Portugal. The Man, Gucci Mane, Ice Cube and The Flaming Lips will close out the fest each night. Other artists coming to Float Fest include Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Grouplove, Big Boi, Jungle, St. Lucia, Houndmouth, G Love & Special Sauce, Missio, The Floozies, Goldfish, Sego and Cowboy Diplomacy.
“We’re excited to bring back Float Fest for its sixth year and host some of the nation’s most talented artists to produce a unique experience in Gonzales,” Float Fest founder Marcus Federman says. “We’re thrilled to be moving to a new city and keep the tradition of our fest going.
“Gonzales is known as the birthplace of Texas independence and we can’t think of a better place to celebrate a festival rich in Texas traditions such as live music, floating the river, and camping.”
Floating will take lace on the expansive Guadalupe River on a private ranch. It promises to be a classic Central Texas scene. Campgrounds are on a scenic pecan orchard, with trees more than 200 years old providing the shade needed for camping in the July Texas heat.
Additional amenities include a VIP lounge with free Wi-Fi, early camping load in, showers on the campground, an expanded general store with tubing accessories such as phone pouches and tubes, and a shade and arcade lounge with 24-hour weekend access.
