Dallas weekends are packed full of events, but how many of them are truly worthy of your time? PaperCity‘s new events calendar offers a curated look at all of the best things to do in the area. But everyone can still use an expert.

Unruly Citizens at The Star

Unruly Citizens, an entertainment lifestyle brand, is bringing The Star in Frisco its first ever hip-hop concert on Saturday, July 27. The festival features a full day of musical acts at Ford Center. Headliners are Future and Juice WRLD. Other performers across the hip-hop spectrum include Yella Beezy, 10k Caash, MO 3, and several more. The event takes place from 1:30 pm to midnight.

Beck & Cage The Elephant

Another big music event coming to Dallas on Saturday, July 27 is Beck and Cage The Elephant. The Night Running Tour is a collaboration between the two alternative artists and will feature special guests Spoon and Wild Belle. For their North American tour, Beck and Cage The Elephant are teaming up to give back. They’ve partnered up with PLUS1 to donate a dollar from every ticket sold back into each city they are playing in, supporting local food security initiatives.

QuakeCon

QuakeCon: Year of Doom takes place this weekend (Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28). It’s a convention for die-hard gamers and includes panels and talks centered around DOOM, Legacy DOOM BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) tournaments, Bethesda game reveals, and more. The four day festival will be at Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center.

Tickets are free, but you must register online ahead of time.

Chris Hardwick

Comedian Chris Hardwick (@midnightTalking Dead) is performing stand-up at Addison Improv on Friday and Saturday evenings. His last tour, Funcomfortable, was in 2016 during which he shot an hour comedy special. Hardwick’s shows at the Improv will be at 7:30 pm and 9:45 pm on Friday, and 7 pm and 9:30 pm on Saturday.

J.B. Smoove

Curb Your Enthusiasm star and comedian, J.B. Smoove, is stopping in Dallas on his Lollygaggin tour this Saturday. Smoove has been featured on Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Everybody Hates Chris, and Tough Crowd. He was most recently seen as the host of Last Comic Standing, Russell Simmons Presents: The Ruckus, and his own one-hour special JB Smoove: That’s How I Dooz It.

The actor goes on at 8 pm at House of Blues.

Basically Beethoven Festival

This Sunday, July 28, spend the afternoon listening to classical chamber music at Moody Performance Hall. The free event is from 2:30 pm to 4:45 pm and includes music from flute, violin, viola, and cello musicians.

Hosted by Fine Arts Chamber Players, the event features performances by Margaret Fischer, Lucas Aleman, Lauren Menard, and Una Gong. They’ll play Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D Major, K. 285, as well as works by Francois Devienne, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy.

Summer BBQ Garden to Table Dinner

This Friday, the Dallas Arboretum is hosting a Summer BBQ Dinner from 6 pm to 8 pm. The half-way through summer celebration includes a three-course barbecue dinner by Smoky Rose and Oak Highland Brewery.

The first course will be smoked quail on a smoked burrata and tomato salad. The main course is the Texas Trio plate with beef ribs, turkey and pulled pork. This is served with fried okra and a fresh smoked succotash. The meal will finish with Maker’s Mark bourbon pecan pie. For drinks, all courses will be served with a beer pairing and a brief history on the selections.

Mavs Summer Yoga

A yoga class led by Jenni Mueller of TruFusion will be held at the Dallas Mavericks’ Lympo Practice Facility this Saturday. From 9 am to 11:30 pm, your admission includes a voucher code for a Mavs game and a complimentary Michelob Ultra.

A general admission ticket costs $25 or you can buy a bundle for two yoga session, the second being on August 24.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye Screening

On Saturday, July 27, PDNB Gallery is showing Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye as a part of their summer film series. The documentary, filmed just before Cartier-Bresson’s death, provides insights by the artist about his life and photographic works. PDNB Gallery artists Elliott Erwitt is featured in the film.

Dallas Bridal Show

This weekend, on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, the Dallas Bridal Show is taking over Dallas Market Hall. Whether you’re engaged and looking for ideas or just enjoy all things weddings, this is a big event. The show features more than 300 wedding businesses, fashion shows by Leann’s Bridal, and door prizes & giveaways.

Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for kids ages 3 to 14.
