A Billionaire’s Houston Palace and a Lush City Retreat Both Win Major Hotel Honors From Storied Travel Bible
The Post Oak and The Houstonian Have Reason to Stand Tall
BY Shelby Hodge // 07.13.22The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston in Houston has been named among Travel + Leisure magazine's 15 best city hotels in the United States. It is the only hotel in Texas to earn the honor.
The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston and The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa both won top honors from Travel + Leisure in the magazine’s prestigious 2022 World’s Best Awards. Billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s premier hotel property was named Best City Hotel in Houston and the 13th Best City Hotel in the entire United States. The Houstonian was recognized as the No. 1 resort hotel in all of Texas.
Both luxe properties are accustomed to high honors.
The Post Oak most recently received Forbes Travel Guide‘s Five Star status for the second consecutive year and remains Texas’ only double Five Star hotel as the spa is the only Forbes Five Star spa in the entire state.
“We are extremely proud to receive this recognition and bring a world class destination to the city of Houston,” Post Oak general manager Steven Chou says in a statement. “Our dedicated staff works around-the-clock every day to deliver a premier level of luxury and service for all our guests. This is a tremendous honor in our industry and reinforces our hotel among the world’s best.”
The Post Oak Hotel is in heady company with the others named in the list of only 15 hotels nationwide.
Travel + Leisure readers participating in the poll named the charming Lowell in New York as the nation’s No. 1 city hotel. It was followed by the Loutrel in Charleston, South Caroline; Pendry Chicago in Chicago; the Riggs in Washington D.C.; the Lyle Park Hotel, Autography Collection, in Cincinnati; Morrison House Old Town, Autograph Collection, in Alexandria, Virginia; L’Hermitage Beverly Hills; Wentworth Mansion in Charleston; The Peninsula in Chicago; the Pendry West Hollywood in West Hollywood; The Rally Hotel in Denver; The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, in New York City; The Post Oak Hotel in Houston; The William Vale in New York City; and The Newbury in Boston.
The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa’s Resort Win
As The Houstonian enters the final stages of a $65 million master plan, set to finish a complete renovation and expansion of the property this fall, it already holds Forbes’ Four Star honors. The Travel + Leisure No. 1 Texas resort honor is further proof that the 27-acre property with its lush canopy of oaks is a glorious retreat in the middle of the nation’s fourth largest city.
The property is a member of the prestigious Preferred Hotels and Resorts while the exclusive Houstonian Club is the only fitness club in Houston to be awarded Platinum Club status by Platinum Clubs of America. Further, the renovation and 9,500-square-foot expansion of the property’s luxurious Trellis Spa make it the largest luxury spa in Texas.
The honors in all categories are based on the results of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards survey in which readers rated hotels on the following characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, food and value. The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa will be showcased in the magazine’s August issue and on TravelandLeisure.com.
The magazine’s World’s Best Awards include top islands, cities, resort hotels, cruise lines, airports and more. You can find the complete list of winners here.
