There are many reasons to drink wine, but one of the most enjoyable ones is as a way of welcoming guests into our homes. I recently hosted a few friends at an afternoon gathering and we started out of doors. I knew I wanted to serve a rosé, and selected one I had never before tried: the 2014 Finca el Origen Malbec Rosé. It’s 100 percent Malbec, from Mendoza’s Uco Valley, and I chilled it to about 50 Fahrenheit. Bright pink in color, soft mouthfeel, a nose of strawberries and softened cherries. My friends liked this wine, which in many ways what it is all about. I would label it as off-dry, and though I would have liked a touch more balance, it was in no way jarring. This would be an ideal party wine for a diverse group, and for about $10 a bottle it’s a no-brainer.
