Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

Cotton baron Sheppard King and his wife, Bertha Wilcox, built their stucco Italianate masterpiece home along Turtle Creek, designed by architect J. Allen Boyle, who was only 17 when Sheppard King hired him. Filled with architectural treasures brought ba ck from Europe — doors salvaged from a Spanish cathedral, carved marble columns from an ancient Roman palace — the home was saved from demolition in 1979 by Caroline Rose Hunt, who turned it into the present Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek.
