The John Fairey Garden in Hempstead, Texas, 1971
Formerly Peckerwood Garden, the 39 acres was rechristened to honor its founder, the late John Fairey, regents professor of architecture at Texas A&M University. The rolling terrain showcases 3,000 plant species, many rare and endangered, including dazzling camellias, palms, agaves, yuccas, and cacti alongside towering pines, hickories, and oaks.
