El Greco, Goya, and a Taste for Spain: Highlights from The Bowes Museum

January 07, 2020 All Day

When

January 07, 2020 | All Day

What

From large, gold-encrusted retable panels of saints to intimate portraits and scenes taken from life, the development of Spanish art across three centuries is explored through eleven masterpieces from England’s largest collection of Spanish paintings, The Bowes Museum, in County Durham, UK. When viewed in context at the Meadows Museum, whose permanent collection features the same artists, the paintings tell the story of Spain’s artistic production as they illuminate the legacy of collectors whose taste for Spanish art was ahead of their time.

Museum hours vary, see website for details.
