What
Stand still in front of Umberto Ciceri’s work and you see blur and color. Take a step, and the image shifts, resolves, and dissolves again. Nearby, James Verbicky’s layered media paintings draw you into a different kind of visual experience, where vintage advertisements and graphics overlap, revealing fragments of images beneath the surface.
That’s the premise of Loose Thoughts, opening at Laura Rathe Fine Art in Houston’s River Oaks District, with a reception on Thursday, November 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ciceri has spent nearly two decades developing his signature Hypertrait technique, which has brought his work to the Venice Biennale. The exhibition marks Ciceri’s gallery debut at LRFA alongside Verbicky, whose resin-sealed compositions transform familiar imagery into dimensional works. Verbicky’s work has also supported nonprofits including Waterkeeper Alliance and the Art of Elysium through fundraising initiatives.
