DHV ARTWORKS is honored to present What Lingers Beneath, the first solo exhibition in Dallas by Swiss-born, Los Angeles-based artist Peter Scherrer. Through richly layered abstract paintings and a limited series of miniature drawings titled Ducky Doodles, Scherrer invites viewers into a world shaped by memory, intuition, and the delicate interplay between structure and emotion.

Each of Scherrer’s canvases begins with a wash of yellow, a nod to the optimism and energy he sees in the color. His intuitive process of layering, erasing, and rebuilding mirrors the complexity of lived experience—what is seen, what is felt, and what lingers beneath. Anchored by a design sensibility honed over years as a graphic artist, his works walk the line between emotional freedom and structural order.

Peter Scherrer was born and raised in a small village outside Zürich, Switzerland. He relocated to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, inspired by its vibrant culture and diversity. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, he built a successful career in graphic design before returning to his first love—painting. Today, he lives and works in San Pedro, a historic artist enclave in L.A., where daily life, travel, and spontaneous encounters continue to inform his studio practice.

In addition to his main body of abstract work, this exhibition will feature a limited collection of Scherrer’s cult-favorite Ducky Doodles—a playful series of original 5×7-inch artworks that began as a daily sketching ritual during the pandemic. These humorous and heartfelt miniatures have sold out in every showing, and 50 original works will be available for purchase at DHV ARTWORKS during the opening event.
