The Galleria’s Newest Store Brings International Buzz and Serious Egg Envy: Fabergé Makes a Surprise Houston Move

BY // 06.19.17

Fabergé‘s iconic enamel bejeweled Imperial Easter Eggs are recognized the world over as a symbol of Russian artistry. So you may be surprised to learn that Houston is home to one of the largest private Fabergé collections in the world. The Dorothy and Artie McFerrin Gallery, which opened at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in April, features exquisite objects produced by Fabergé, which was founded in 1842, including the Nobel Ice Egg, a tiara, picture frames, decorative boxes, and jewelry.

Recently, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II loaned a “surprise” delicate automaton elephant to HMNS. The surprise, discovered in the British royal family’s art collection, is now reunited with its correlating 1982 Imperial Diamond Trellis Egg for the first time in more than 80 years.

Now, PaperCity can exclusively report, the iconic jeweler is opening its first retail boutique in Texas in The Galleria. Located on the main level in the jewelry corridor near the new Saks Fifth Avenue, the boutique is slated to open in the fall. The boutique, which will have rose gold detailing throughout, will feature contemporary fine jewelry inspired by the history of the brand, innovative timepieces, and an Egg Bar, which will feature the signature egg pendants, a contemporary interpretation of the historic Imperial Easter Eggs.

“Houston is already well versed in the world of Fabergé with the Museum of Natural science currently hosting one of the world’s largest private collections of Fabergé creations. The opening of the new store will further allow Houston to become a prime destination for those wishing to discover Fabergé, past and present,” Fabergé’s global retail director Meredeth Moss says.

Peter Carl Fabergé, who was named the official goldsmith to the Russian Imperial Court in 1885, championed the guilloché detailing technique, still used today. Fabergé’s current offerings honor the brand’s heritage, utilizing the interlaced chandelier glass, brightly colored gemstones, and the fusion of craftsmanship and ingenuity.

The watches utilize new movement developed by master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederracht and his team at Agenhor exclusively for Fabergé. The Lady Compliquée Peacock for ladies and the Visionnaire Dual Time Zone for men each won the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve.
