Devilishly Handsome Designer Hits Dallas, Answers Five Important Questions
By Linden Wilson Jobe //
Mesmerized by Yigal Azrouël‘s devilishly handsome stare? You’re not the only one. Born in Israel but a New Yorker at heart (he launched his first collection at NYFW in 2000, and his Madison Avenue boutique opened three years later), the talented designer makes his way to Dallas on Thursday, August 20, for a personal appearance at Tootsies from 2 to 7 pm. We caught up with the CFDA member to chat about his exquisitely modern Fall 2015 collection.
Describe your Fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection and the inspirations behind it.
The Fall 2015 collection was inspired by the idea of going against the grain, of individualism clashing against an existing system. I drew inspiration from artists known for their nontraditional approach to art and design, which included the works of Man Ray and Kazimir Malevich.
How would you describe your aesthetic?
My design is always evolving, yet continually has a modern and fresh approach. I like to incorporate clean and minimal elements with the aim of creating something not overly done but effortless.
Your travels must inspire you — where are your favorite places to visit?
I love traveling to Costa Rica, and most recently I went to the Maldives, which was very inspiring. I like surfing at these spots.
Favorite eatery in New York City?
For me, it’s about fresh ingredients. Bar Pitti is one of my regular spots.
Standout moment from your career.
I believe that every moment through my past represents a stage of my life that I don’t regret.
Meet Yigal Azrouël from 2 to 7 pm on Thursday, August 20 at Tootsies, 8300 Preston Road, 214.696.9993.
