For many, the holiday gifting process is a frenzied affair. What will satisfy the girl who has everything, the guy who wants nothing, and the children who want it all? And more importantly, where are those perfect gifts hiding? PaperCity has selected a range of Houston shops brimming with Yuletide treasures, and we’re letting you in on the bounty. It’s our way of making your shopping experience a little easier and a lot more fun.

We’ll tell you about some of our favorite merchants, and share gift recommendations from the people who make the stores special. Today, we take you to Montrose Shop.

The holiday season exposes two types of people — those who tackle their Christmas shopping early, and the rest of us, who register December 23 as their first official day of the gift hunt. Whether your hectic schedule has gotten in the way or you just thrive under pressure, last-minute Christmas shopping doesn’t have to be a burden, especially if you know where to go.

Montrose Shop is making last-minute gift shopping a holiday fête with bubbly, bites and complimentary gift wrapping throughout the day, as well as 25 percent off apparel and 15 percent off interiors. The store’s assortment of one-of-a-kind, independent goods offer something for everyone, including everything from clothing, home decor, books and accessories.

Montrose Shop offers something for everyone.

With just two shopping days left until Christmas, Co-proprietor Juley Le (Kim Nguyen is the other half of the duo) shares last-minute gift tips and more.

Many of your store’s items are unique; how do you go about buying for the store, and how do you decide which brands to feature?
Great question. Our philosophy from the start has been to figure out what we wanted for our customer, and then to go hunt that particular item down. We’re still scratching the surface, but are confident you’re not going to have to invest in another Breton stripe shirt after shopping at Montrose. We found that this proactive approach is more practical for our small business and gives us control of the entire process.

Which merchandise is exclusive to Montrose Shop?
While not entirely exclusive, we’re proud to be one of the first stores to carry Negative Underwear in the country and Grown Alchemist in Houston.

What are you gifting this Christmas, and what are you hoping to receive?
I strictly give clothes or books to my seven nieces and nephews. All I could hope for is time to unplug and be with my loved ones.

What do you think is the importance of shopping local?
I think every city wants a breakout company, because it not only drives more jobs, but also awareness. Shopping local supports those homegrown efforts. If local shops do things right, they can help make their city a national shopping destination, which ultimately creates more jobs and a healthier economy.
