It’s going to be a dizzying week at River Oaks District as the stable of chic fashion boutiques joins the city’s Super Bowl frenzy with loads of celebrity-infused parties. They’re dubbing it “Super Style Week” with retailers including Giuseppe Zanotti, Roberto Cavalli and Baanou joining the NFL fray.
Football legends, NBA stars, television commentators and social swells will add gridiron cachet to a number of parties while retailers across the 14-acre oasis of luxury are bringing in exceptional pieces and straight-from-the-runway items just for Super Bowl Week. Count Tom Ford, Cartier, Dolce & Gabbana, and Van Cleef & Arpels among those ratcheting up inventory for the Super Bowl invasion.
A number of the events have a charity component. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings running back and former NFL MVP, will be the toast of Giuseppe Zanotti for an event that benefits The All Day Foundation. ETRO will host former Houston Texan Chester Pitts at an exclusive night of shopping to benefit the Chester Pitts Foundation. You’ll find NFL Pro Bowl safety Malcolm Jenkins at Davidoff of Geneva where he will present his Rock Avenue bow-tie collection.
Houston Texans wives Devi Brown (Duane Brown) and Megan Cushing (Brian Cushing) will welcome the ladies (and gents) to sip and shop events at Baanou and Alice + Olivia. Proceeds will go to their choice of charities including the Brian Cushing Foundation.
Even basketball’s giants are getting into the Super Bowl act. New NBA Hall of Fame nominee Tracy McGrady and wife CleRenda McGrady (just named to the Houston Best Dressed roster) will make the scene at Cavalli, where the designer’s spectacular couture gowns have been flown in for the week. Later, the McGradys hit Dior for launch of her self-help book Push Thru! Redefine and Create Your Own Success Story. Former University of Texas star and NBA player T.J. Ford, joined by his mother and his wife, will host an evening at both Les Copains and John Lobb in tribute to non-profits TJ Ford Basketball and Project Beautiful Me.
In addition to the 50 luxury shops, restaurants and cafes on site, Los Angeles-based ALBA hosts a pop-up shop for gents who are looking for the bespoke clothing favored by celebrities such as Magic Johnson, J.J. Watt and Kevin Hart.
“We’ve pulled out all the stops to create a lively atmosphere for guests to enjoy River Oaks District,” marketing manager Jennifer Rivera says in a statement, “whether they’re looking to experience the best shopping and dining in the city or gain exclusive access to one-of-a-kind, luxury pieces flown in specially for game day festivities.”
