Christmas in August — Believe it Or Not, the Holiday Decorating Fever is Already Quietly Beginning
Go Behind the Scenes to See What's Coming

While At Home stores already have Christmas paraphernalia on display (and it’s only August!), we made a recent Houston visit to what could be a Santa’s workshop of holiday decorations where the elves have been tinkering since last January on Christmas dazzlers. But you won’t see these imaginative creations until a more reasonable time when shopping centers and commercial buildings begin dressing up.
Welcome to Always in Season.
These are the folks who dress both Hobby and Intercontinental airports, Highland Village, Memorial Hermann Hospitals, Weingarten Realty and more. You’ve seen their sparkling genius in River Oaks Shopping Center, Upper Kirby District, Sugar Land Town Square and The Woodlands Mall. Our mission on this ridiculously steamy morning was to select the Christmas tree and garlands for our high-rise condo.
Sadly, we could not purchase any of the must-have decorations including the adorable glittering, larger-than-life penguins. Not for sale.
While these emblems of holiday magic are available for commercial rental only, we garnered loads of ideas for DIY weekends or as inspiration for your favorite designer/florist to copy.
In addition to the penguins, we loved the 6-foot high gilded pine cone suspended from above, the golden and the silver reindeer, and trees so thick with ornaments, ribbons and faux blossoms that surely Santa would abscond with one to take back to the North Pole. Five-foot tall nutcrackers, ginormous gilded tassels, and starburst light fixtures filled the display room with enough Christmas magic to rival Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker Market.
