Offering features more reminiscent of a luxury resort than a retirement community, MorningStar at River Oaks will open late 2021 in Houston. The inspired senior community at 2315 Richmond Avenue includes a bistro, outdoor dining, theatre and concierge services. Perhaps the most anticipated amenity is its sixth floor Club Room opening onto a Sky Terrace with fireplace and magnificent views of downtown Houston.
To bring this vision to life in Texas, the MorningStar Senior Living team partnered with renowned Houston developer Hines.
“We’re pleased to open our first community in the state through our partnership with Hines,” MorningStar Founder and CEO Ken Jaeger says. “This project will reflect each company’s vast experience in the housing space, taking senior living design and innovation to the next level.”
Offering independent living, assisted living and memory care, MorningStar aspires to elevate life for all beneath its roof. In the River Oaks community, 85 suites for assisted living will be available — with 27 secure suites devoted to the individualized care of residents with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. MorningStar’s range of service options allows residents to extend their stay until a diagnosis or condition calls for 24-hour nursing.
As to its approach in the tender world of memory care, MorningStar offers Lavender Sky, its own reimagined philosophy and programming for those walking the journey of dementia. The precepts of Lavender Sky are anchored in training for the entire team coupled with a comprehensive set of brand standards that reflect a more insightful and intentional way to support the memory-impaired and their families.
The MorningStar Mission
As Jaeger articulates it, the heart of the MorningStar brand story is rooted in the principles upon which he founded the company 18 years ago. He felt called to create something different, something new, with the ultimate goal of transforming lives.
“What seniors need is what we all need: an affirmation of significance, value and love,” Jaeger says. “At MorningStar, we’re on a mission to deliver on that need — to serve seniors, each other and the world.
“While our first love is seniors and the elevation of their lives, we also prioritize ways in which we can make an impact beyond our community walls.” Quoting from its stewardship report, ‘After all, what could be a truer index of MorningStar’s mission than that of being agents of justice and defenders of the poor, particularly for children who find themselves trapped in broken societies and abject poverty in the world’s most remote places.’ ”
Jaeger and Managing Partner Matt Turner have walked the path of poverty many times in developing nations, each trip a profound and humbling experience, deepening their resolve that MorningStar play a central role in impacting the world for good. Through the work of its Foundation, MorningStar currently supports the Casa Bernabé orphanage in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua and Lifewater International in San Luis Obispo, California. As importantly, each MorningStar community, including River Oaks, chooses a local nonprofit with whom to align itself in a volunteer capacity.
“By weaving all the threads of a better story, by knowing our purpose is greater than any one of us, MorningStar is resolved to leave a legacy of benevolence and changed lives.” To learn more, visit the Sales Center one block from the upcoming community at 2514 Richmond Avenue.
