Texas Mansion with the Largest Backyard Swimming Pool in the World Sells for a Steep Discount

Original Oil Tycoon Owner Gives Up His Home Resort Paradise

BY // 01.09.18

There’s no denying that when the temperatures in Texas sit at a steady 90 degrees, backyard pools are a necessity for surviving Texas summers that seem to drag on forever. Now, an owner who has not been named yet, will benefit from having the largest private swimming pool in Texas, right in their backyard.

An El Campo mansion that houses the largest private swimming pool in Texas for sure (it’s also been touted as the largest backyard swimming pool in the world) — really it’s more of a complete resort pool next to a house — recently sold for somewhere between $2.5 and $2.879 million. That marks a substantial decrease in price from the whopping $3.5 million the house was originally listed at.

And what do you get for the pretty penny of the upper $2 millions? Let’s run through some of the details of the house:

The property sits on 40 acres of Coastal Bend land with a five bedroom, 7,329 square foot mansion to boot. The pool was designed by Cheryl Kuykendall, and features a 40,000 square foot main pool (which takes 750,000 gallons of water to fill), six waterfalls, a 21-foot slide, a 500-foot lazy river, a swim up bar, an outdoor kitchen, and a kids area, amongst other features. One of the two hot tubs in the pool seats 25 to 30 people.

The best part of this beyond over-the-top backyard pool? The 500 foot adjustable speed lazy river, which former owner Mike Mobley, affectionately calls “Thunder River” in homage to AstroWorld’s old whitewater ride.

A House Worthy of the Pool

Inside the house sits a gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances, granite counters, a butler’s pantry, a movie room, a game room (with a bar included, of course), and a separate outdoor kitchen. Oh, and hand-crafted bronze stars made by Mobley and his son.

The estate also has an elevator, six fireplaces, a rock climbing wall, and Palm Trees flown in from Florida. Guests can stay in a 3,300 square-foot guest house on site.

The original owner of the impressive property was Mike Mobley, CEO and President of Quality Lease Service LLC, which provides well-site preparation and construction services to the oilfield industry in the Gulf Coast. The oil tycoon built the pool in 2005, after wanting a place where the whole town could come for a free dip during El Campo’s endless summer. With a population of a little more than 11,000 all of El Campo couldn’t fit into the swimming pool, but it’d be close.

Mobley has said that he decided to sell the property as a result of his kids growing up and him remarrying, but he’ll miss watching football games and movies in the impressive family room around the fireplace. We’re betting he won’t miss that water bill though.
