It’s no secret that Houston’s Post Oak Boulevard is being reimagined. The vital avenue is being rejuvenated and it’s about to showcase a brand new gem.
The Zadok family has revealed its plans for a ritzy new addition to Uptown, a mixed-use project that will include Zadok Jewelers’ new supersized store, top restaurants and upscale office space. It will be called 1801 Post Oak Blvd after the Houston significant address where it will rise.
The triple threat mixed-use development will encompass 112,000 square feet of space. The prime site at 1801 Post Oak Boulevard was once home to Tony’s, the legendary Houston restaurant that moved to its current Greenway Plaza area location in 2005.
“The Galleria area is sort of the hub of shopping in Houston, specifically luxury shopping in Houston. We feel like we want to get as close to our clients as possible, and we think Post Oak Boulevard is the most prestigious street in Houston,” Jonathan Zadok tells PaperCity.
First started in 1976, Zadok Jewelers is currently located at 1749 Post Oak Boulevard.
Helene and Dror Zadok, along with their three sons, Jonathan, Segev and Gilad, knew it was time to take their business to the next level — with new gorgeous surroundings.
“We want it to have a luxury feel, but not be intimidating,” Jonathan Zadok says of the new mixed-use development that will designed by famed Austin architect Michael Hsu.
Groundbreaking on the project is set for this August, with turnover to tenants for build out beginning in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The Zadoks are hoping for a September or October 2020 opening, but if things get pushed back, you can expect the doors to this boutique three-in-one space to open in January of 2021.
“We’re obviously not going to move during Christmas season,” Jonathan Zadok laughs.
The tenants have yet to be finalized or revealed. Potential partnership opportunities have run the gamut from luxury hotels to office towers according to Jonathan Zadok. Through it all, the Zadoks will maintain creative control of the project.
“This is a mixed-use project trying to blend retail, office and restaurants together in a way that really works for all of the different aspects. I want all three different aspects of the building to be equally important,” Jonathan Zadok tells PaperCity.
Michael Hsu’s Magic Touch
Timelessness was key to the project’s design, encapsulating the Zadoks’ storied history and their future. The look will be at once eye-catching and fit seamlessly into Uptown’s enhanced walkability through 15-foot setbacks and take advantage of the upcoming transit line.
Austin-based Hsu, who is opening a Houston office of his firm, seemed like the perfect design fit.
“Because of the fact that we wanted a lifestyle center that was unique to other centers that are built around Houston, we tried a few different architects. Really, Michael Hsu stood out for their creativity in blending the three different aspects together,” Zadok says.
In the Hsu design, a 26-foot-high drive-thru arcade on the street level will be flanked on one side by a bi-level, 26,000-square-foot Zadok Jewelers store, nearly doubling the size of the current store. The new store will be clad in native Texas cut stone.
On the opposite side, you will find two adjoining double-height restaurant spaces totaling a little over 11,000 square feet with patios perfect for outdoor dining. Varying colors of brick will line the restaurant spaces, and the office levels overhead will feature a sleek, streamlined glass curtain wall.
The arcade was crafted with tenants and visitors’ comfort in mind, protecting them from the elements and incorporating store entrances, valet pick up and drop-off, in addition to a concierge lobby for the three floors and 68,000 square feet of boutique offices above.
Self-parking will also be available at the new 1801 Post Oak Blvd.
“We think that it’s a very unique boutique building,” Jonathan Zadok says. “No other building in the city has every floor plate of the garage matching the floor plate of the building. It’s totally different from all the other buildings you’ve seen out there.”
Parking levels on each and every floor are integral to the hospitality-driven mixed-use development’s convenience factor.
You may have to wait to experience this new venture, but it’s sure to be the jewel of Post Oak.
