Blue Bell Unveils New Ice Cream Flavors — and the Internet Loses its Mind

No Stolen Licks Please

This may come out of the blue, but are you ready to scream for ice cream? Yes? Good. Because we’ve got news.

The iconic ice cream brand of Texas has just released two new flavors, and Blue Bell is definitely not holding back.

One’s a familiar favorite, but the other new creamy Blue Bell confection won’t ring a bell. It’s all-new, and it adds a whole new dimension to this Brenham-based creamery’s offerings.

The innovative flavor that hit the freezer aisle shelves this week is the inspired Salted Caramel Cookie, just in time for fall. It’s certainly worth the trek down the chilly grocery lane.

Imagine rich, creamy caramel ice cream bursting with vanilla crème-filled cookies and laced with ribbons of salted caramel swirl. It’s almost impossible to say no to salted caramel, but that’s not the main thing here.

It’s all in the way the sweet little cookie crumbles.

“What makes this flavor stand out from all of the others is the cookie. The vanilla crème-filled cookie balances the caramel ice cream and salted swirl perfectly,” Blue Bell vice president of sales and marketing Jimmy Lawhorn says in a statement.

For a limited time only, you can snag the flavor in either pint-sized or a half-gallon — we know which one you’re really after. Get ‘em while they’re cold.

Shortly after the news came out Blue Bell’s Facebook post on the new flavor quickly racked up 2,000-plus reactions and more than 900 comments. And counting.

Many people are already going crazy for the stuff before they’ve even brought a spoonful to their lips. Some are praising the ice cream giant for crafting an interesting new flavor that doesn’t rely on chocolate.

But there will always be detractors. In this case, those who aren’t into salt and demand straight-up caramel.

We’re willing to bet they’ll check it out anyway.

Ice Cream Pranks?

There’s also some commenters’ talk of adding some kind of safety seal to the cartons — no surprise, considering the viral videos of attention-desperate pranksters taking the lids off of the half-gallons of Blue Bell at grocery stores, licking the ice cream and then putting it all back on the shelf.

Blue Bell’s not hiding from that ridiculous fad, and is responding to these public comments. “We understand your concern and are currently looking into ways to enhance our manufacturing process which includes adding extra protection to our cartons,” the company notes in a comment.

We’ve got to give credit to Blue Bell fan Bob Weymouth, who weighed in with, “I don’t care who licks it, I’m still eatin’ it!”

The other “new” Blue Bell ice cream flavor is sure to put a smile on your face — the cult classic Happy Tracks. The dessert mavens start out with your traditional vanilla ice cream before perking it up with chocolate-covered peanut butter cups and doing it up with dark chocolate fudge swirls.

You heard the man. You’d better make tracks to your nearest grocery store.
