From Downtown to Frisco, Freshness Rules

BY // 05.17.19

The Dallas area is home to one of the biggest and best city farmers markets. It also has some of the nicest suburban spots, particularly up north. New markets are popping up in parking lots this summer and some just finished hosting their own family fairs. Fresh produce, breads, and arts and crafts can be found all across the city if you just know where to look.

Here are Dallas’ best farmers markets:

Dallas Farmers Market

920 S. Harwood Street

Dallas’ biggest and most well-known farmers market, The Shed at Dallas Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. The Shed is an open-air pavilion that has tons of vendors for fresh produce, breads, regional and international foods. There are also arts and crafts vendors throughout the year.

Also open seven days a week are The Market shops, a 26,000 square foot food hall and artisanal vendor market with numerous food stands. And it’s all downtown.

A part of Good Local Markets, a nonprofit organization, White Rock Local Market began in 2009 in East Dallas. The market runs on Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm, from the months of March to December.

Vendors include farmers, ranchers, breads, pastries, home decor, toys, art, clothing, jewelry and more. The organization will be adding on a second day each week with the new Lakewood Village Farmers Market on Sundays.

Lakewood Village Farmers Market

6434 E. Mockingbird Lane

Dallas’ newest farmers market, Lakewood Village opens this Sunday, May 19. Also a part of the Good Local Markets, Lakewood will be open on Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm. It’ll run through October. The market is located in the parking lot at the intersection of Mockingbird and Abrams.

Food vendors will include Caliper Farm to Market, Full Circle Bakery, Urban Chicken, and Chandler Family Farm to name a few. There will also be Sissy Soaps, Sunshine Store, and John Campbell Pottery for arts and crafts.

Frisco Fresh Market

9215 John W. Elliott Drive, Frisco

This new farmers market is worth a trip up north. The Frisco Fresh Market is open on Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. There are currently 17 food vendors, 92 vendor stalls, and a few restaurants coming later this year.

The outdoor market includes Dan’s Fresh & Local Produce, The God’s Foods, Pet and People Boutique, Coppell Candle Company, Caitlin’s Hive and Tiza Skincare. There’s also an indoor market coming in 2020 that will be climate-controlled.

They continue to make the market even better by hosting their inaugural Frisco Fair last month.

The McKinney Farmer’s Market

315 S. Chestnut Street, McKinney

The McKinney Farmer’s Market opened early last month and will be held every Saturday until November 23. Hours are brief from 8 am to noon so make sure you get to the historic Chestnut Square Village early.

Vendors include specialty foods such as Aunt Nettie’s Sweets & Treats, The Amazing Dip Company and Savor Patisserie. Farmers and ranchers that attend are Buck Creek Meats, Demases Farms, and Warne Bee Farm. There’s also crafts such as McKinney Art House, Sheri’s Stitchery and The Cats Meow.
