After overwhelming success with his B&B Butchers and Restaurant in Houston, Ben Berg has added a leaf to his dining table by opening a second location, this one in Fort Worth. A fab opening night party complete with a string quartet and DJ combo, a jazz singer and pianist and a mariachi band punctuated an evening that introduced more than 200 of Forth Worth’s finest to B&B’s highly lauded USDA Prime menu.
The combo butcher shop and restaurant, specializing in in-house, dry-aged meats, has been a hit in Houston since opening and Berg expects the love to flow in Fort Worth as well. The sleek new restaurant is located in The Shops at Clearfork, Simons’ new development located at the legendary Edwards Ranch.
Signaling his intent to be a good neighbor as well as a purveyor of fine food, Berg selected patrons of Rivertree Academy as special guests for the opening night bash. For the evening, Berg and his wife, Monica, were joined by renowned developer Sam Brous and wife Janis as co-hosts.
As is B&B tradition, the cocktail menu included signature bites such as the to-die-for carpet baggers (filet mignon topped with fried oysters, thick-cut bacon, crumbled blue cheese, blue cheese sauce and house-made hot sauce), yummy bacon beef Wellingtons and rich crab cakes. The dinner menu included Mr. G’s classic caesar salad and filet mignon served with mac & cheese, grilled asparagus and creamed spinach. Topping off the feast was New York Cheesecake. But wait, there was more.
In a nod to Berg’s 40th birthday, chef Tommy Elbashary sent out a surprise candlelit cake, in the shape of a rabbit, while a band of mariachis serenaded. The whimsical cake design was a nod to the restaurateur’s childhood nickname, “Benjamin Bunny.”
