Texas’ Best New Afternoon Tea
Newly Renovated French Room at this Downtown Hotel Makes a Glamorous Return
By Linden Wilson Jobe //
A quote on the afternoon tea menu of the newly renovated French Room at The Adolphus hotel in downtown Dallas reads: “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
This quote, from novelist Henry James’ “Portrait of a Lady,” has never rung truer now that the French Room has made its glamorous return.
The French Room’s beloved tea service resumes Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving. From 1 to 3 pm, Wednesday through Sunday, indulge in a selection of loose-leaf teas from Dallas-based Zakti, including Moroccan Mint, Lemon Verbana, Passion Fruit & Orange, Rose Congou, and Earl Grey.
Whilst sipping your tea, enjoy a prix fixe menu of chef Michael Ehlert‘s finger sandwiches (house-cured gravlax with Persian cucumbers, fennel marmalade and parsnip crumble, et al.), scones (including cranberry and pecan, and Parisian ham and gruyere), and pastry chef Eric Burrell‘s various tea cakes and desserts (apricot sacher torte, lemon crumb cake, red berry profiteroles).
Or, sample the aforementioned treats à la carte; there’s also mozzarella and vine-ripe tomato sandwiches, coconut bars, caramel chocolate bars, and many more delicious goodies.
For tea-time reservation at the French Room, call 214.651.3615.
