Dallas Gets a New True Late Night Taco Restaurant by SMU
Houston’s Montrose Neighborhood is Next —
By Natalie Gempel //
Popular late-night taco joint Velvet Taco has officially opened a second location in Dallas. The new restaurant made its debut earlier this week at 4622 Greenville Ave. near the SMU campus. It’s Velvet Taco’s fifth location in Texas. There is also one in Chicago, and another in the works for Houston’s Montrose neighborhood.
The unique taqueria takes inspiration from a variety of global cuisines. The tacos come in unusual and experimental flavors such as spicy tikka chicken, shrimp and grits, fried paneer and more. The menu includes a section of vegetarian tacos — like falafel and Nashville hot tofu — as well as a few options for vegan and gluten-free diners.
In addition to the main attraction, this unique taco brand serves up inventive sides such as red curry coconut queso, elote-style corn, crispy tots with fried egg, and red velvet cake for dessert.
Yes, there is suddenly a new late-night spot with foodie cred by SMU. It’s easy to imagine Velvet Taco finding a regular audience of devotees.
The new Velvet Taco is open Mondays through Wednesdays 11 am to 2 am; Thursdays 11 am to 3 am; Fridays 11 am to 4 am; Saturdays 10 am to 4 am; and Sundays 10 am to 2 am. Brunch is served all day.
