It’s not enough to go out to a bar or restaurant anymore and just have a few drinks with friends. We want activities! A new South Victory spot called HERO by HG SPLY CO has picked up on the trend and answered our call.
The 25,000 square foot space is situated at 3090 Olive Street, next to the American Airlines Center. The restaurant has a main dining area with two bars, a Bullzerk custom T-shirt company store, an 800 square foot arcade, and an open-air back bar called The Meantime.
HERO is currently still in its soft-opening phase, but it is open for dinner and drinks.
80/20 Hospitality founder Elias Pope says that in the coming weeks, HERO will be fully open with complete menus, will have an official grand opening party, and add lunch and weekend brunch hours.
“Until then we wanted to focus all of our energy on fueling the (Dallas) Stars and their fans,” Pope says.
Currently on the menu, created by culinary director Danyele McPherson, are items like tacos, sandwiches, salads and soups. They’re also offering a build your own bowl program where you choose your protein, base and sauces. For protein, there are the options of chicken, Kansas City Kobe beef burger, salmon, beef tenderloin, shrimp, pulled pork and bratwurst.
“Working with the Stars, we have adapted the HG menu philosophy to work for the needs of professional athletes,” McPherson says. “This means continued focus on fresh and natural foods, but with the addition of more starch based carbohydrates through rice, pasta and potato based menu options. The food at HERO is fun, fresh and just like HG, offers plenty of choices for all diner’s lifestyles.”
Beer, wine and specialty cocktails are also available at the bar. The Salty Dawg is 42 Below Vodka, aperol, Giffard grapefruit liqueur, Ruby Red Grapefruit, and lemon with a candied citrus salt rim. They also have the Hero Mule with vodka, ginger kombucha and lime.
As for the arcade, there looks to be an air hockey table, Ms. Pac Man, NBA Jam, Galaga, a Harley Davidson pinball game, and more. The Meantime bar also has a 24-foot-tall screen for game watching, allowing space for 560 people.
Hours at HERO are currently Sundays through Thursdays from 5 pm to 12 am and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 pm to 2 am.
