What: VIP five-course dinner paired with Grand Marnier Grande Cuvée Collection cognacs and Marnier-Lapostelle wines from Chile.

Where: Caracol.

Who: Grand Marnier’s charming — and very French — master distiller Patrick Raguenaud came to town straight from Cognac to pair with Caracol’s sommelier and beverage director Sean Beck to present the evening’s offerings to lucky habitués Mary and Andrew Lorys, Mike Rosenberg, Kenn Stearns, Carlos Neri, Sonya Carr, and Noelle and Eric Reed.

PC Moment: The evening started with the Greatest Margarita (made with Grand Marnier, of course) and ended with the El Coco, a chocolate shell one must crack open with a hammer to reach the coconut buttercream and chocolate ganache interior. The dessert was served with the decadent cognac blend Quintessence, which contains cognacs that date to 1906 and retails for $900 a bottle. A smashing night indeed.
