NFL Heavyweights Raise Big Money for Project 88 in Houston

These Current and Former Texans Players are all About Giving Back

BY // 04.21.19

What: The fifth annual “Game Day Gala

Where: Eclessia, the progressive Christian church on the edge of downtown

PC Moment:  The altruistic nature of the fraternity of current and former Houston Texans was beautifully displayed when a huddle of the NFL heavyweights gathered at Ecclesia to raise $360,000 for Project 88, founded by Ericka and Garrett Graham, former Texans tight end. Project 88 supports Advise TX, which provides college counselors in Houston public schools with the goal of getting more students into college programs.

In the spotlight at this fundraiser, popular not only for the cause it serves but also for the dress code of jerseys and jeans, were founding event chairs Hannah and Cal McNair, Houston Texans chairman and CEO, and Lisa and Chris Seay, Ecclesia pastor.

Texans past and present, and their spouses, filling the party scene included host committee members Megan and Brian Cushing, Angela and Owen Daniels, Caroline and Kevin Walter and Amanda and Jon Weeks. Retired Texans defensive lineman Chester Pitts joined Denise Hamilton, WatchHerWork.com founder and CEO, as emcees.

The evening honored Hallie Vanderhider, generous philanthropist and managing director of SFC Energy, with the inaugural  Inspiration award. She received a standing ovation for her generosity and accomplishments

Perhaps highlight of the night was a game of heads and tails with the winner receiving an $8,000 gift card to IW Marks Jewelers. The heated competition came down to the final two — Hannah McNair (identical twin of Joanna Marks) and Bryan Glass — with Glass taking home the prize.

Dinner from Monarch Hospitality and dancing to the sounds of DJ Kenny Klips rounded out the evening.
