Luci Lights and PaperCity
Drinks for all our friends at the PaperCity/Direct Energy bash!
Let there be light! That could have been the mantra of the cool crowd that gathered at the spanking new River Oaks hotspot Bosscat Kitchen + Libations. For this evening of food, drink and philanthropy, Direct Energy and PaperCity teamed up to show the love for the electricity provider’s philanthropic Luci Lights campaign.
Luci Lights are the practical, if absolutely adorable, solar-powered, inflatable and waterproof lights created by New York-based MPOWERD to provide light to people in the developing world. As seeing is believing, Luci Lights, which shine for up to 12 hours on one solar charge, lined the perimeter of the restaurant where the garage-style doors were open to the fresh night air.
Every time someone signs up for Direct Energy’s Give Brighter 12 Plan, that individual receives a Luci Light and one will be sent to someone across the globe who has no access to electricity. The program, which began last summer, has found a growing audience with more than 35,000 lights either sent or on their way to developing countries. Cullen Hay, Direct Energy’s general manager — US Energy, joined the Bosscat bash and allowed that the program will expand to deliver Luci Lights to impoverished areas of this country such as the Mississippi delta.
“The program is doing incredibly well,” Hay said. “The best thing about it is that customers have the option of selecting this plan and we see that they are choosing this product because of the philanthropy.”
PaperCity has adopted Direct Energy’s Luci Lights campaign as its Corporate Outreach Initiative of the year — and the party brought it all together.
While sipping on Moscow Mules and The Bosscat (a powerful bourbon, lemon, simple syrup and bitters concoction), guests were treated to the hot spot’s signature bar treats — bourbon chicken flatbread, house pimento cheese bites, 12-hour short rib grilled cheese sliders, and avocado deviled eggs.
Leading the charge were hosts for the evening Lindley and Jason Arnoldy, Lauren and Max Barrett, Christine Falgout and Bill Gutknecht, Kimberly Falgout and Evan Scheele and Claire Cormier-Thielke and Rick Thielke.
