Kimora Lee Simmons‘ signature “fabulosity” spread across the second floor of Neiman Marcus like Nutella across warm toast — rich, decadent and divine. The fashion designer, model, mother of four and wife of  hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was in the spotlight as featured designer at Houston Community College’s Passion for Fashion fundraiser.

The glam former model, designer and owner of the streetwear line Baby Phat set the tone for the event that honored fashion icons Céron and Duyen Nguyen. They joined an elite society of fashionistas that includes Becca Cason Thrash, Phoebe Tudor, Merele Yarborough and Kelli Cohen Fein, among others.

For their moment in the spotlight, both stepped out in ultra chic style. Nguyen, ordinarily a practicing dentist by day, wore a smashing Stella McCartney cocktail dress, a Louise Green cloche and to-die-for Gucci cocktail pumps. Houston’s celebrity hair stylist Céron joined the season’s love affair with animal prints, stepping out in Dolce & Gabbana leopard print slacks and long coat, Gucci belt, Saint Laurent loafers and, embracing a high-low oeuvre, a black shirt from Zara.

The two 2019 Fashion Media honorees did their bit for Simmons’ coined “fabulosity” with Houston Chronicle fashion writer Joy Sewing wearing a colorful frock from Simmons’ Fall ’19 collection and freelance writer and PaperCity fashion guru Clifford Pugh sporting an Armani suit and Hermès tie.

Leading the program was Neiman’s GM Stephen Brunelle, Andrea Bonner, chair of HCC ‘s Consumer Arts & Sciences Center of Excellence, and Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, HCC board of trustees chair.

In a Q&A that followed presentation of Simmons’ fall collection, emcee Deborah Duncan, KHOU Channel 11 Great Day Houston host, posed the familiar question to the woman whose book of 15 years ago was titled Fabulosity. What is fabulosity?

“It’s a state of being,” Simmons answered. “It’s all the things that go together to make you fabulous.”

Her advice to the gathering flanking the formal catwalk. “We all have some sauce in us. You need to use that sauce.”
